A 31-year-old serving National Youth Service Corps member and teacher at a private school off Jakpa Road in Delta State has been arraigned before High Court 1 in Effurun and remanded at Warri Correctional Centre after raping a 6-year-old girl on three separate occasions within the school premises.
The case has been adjourned to September 18, 2026, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
According to the child’s account, the suspect took her to his apartment within the school premises on three occasions when her mother arrived late to pick her up, and sexually abused her every time.
“He took me to his room when everyone was not around. He put something in my private part and told me that if I told my mum, he would beat me,” she said.
The suspect allegedly used a blood-stained white handkerchief to frighten the child into silence, threatening to kill her if she disclosed what had happened to her mother. A medical examination reportedly confirmed that the child’s hymen was broken and her vulva ruptured.
The suspect is a serving NYSC corps member deployed as a teacher at the private school, placing him in a position of trust and daily access to the children under his care.
A Delta-based activist took up the case and facilitated his arraignment. He was brought before High Court 1, Effurun, on September 9, 2026, and remanded at Warri Correctional Centre, Okere. The matter has been adjourned to September 18, 2026, pending the DPP’s advice on the charges to be preferred against him.
