Ms. Onyinyechi Basil, a 25-year-old native of Anambra State, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, 2025. At the national competition’s grand finale, held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, Ms. Onyinyechi outshone four finalist contestants to become the new Miss Universe Nigeria.
Initially, 22 contestants were unveiled on August 26, 2025, then they were narrowed down to 10, and finally to the five finalists. The grand finale witnessed Onyinyechi competing with others in traditional costume, swimwear, evening wear segment, and a question and answer session.
Onyinyechi succeeded Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, Chidinma Adeshina. She will represent Nigeria at the 74th Miss Universe pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, later this year.
Reacting to her victorious win, Onyinyechi said,
“I want young girls to know that they can be more, achieve more, and still celebrate their cultural identity. I’m truly honoured and humbled. It’s not a win for me, but for every young girl who dares to work.”
Onyinyechi is a vocal maternal healthcare advocate. She works with one of South Korea’s top conglomerates, where she oversees operations in West Africa.
For her win, Onyinyechi will receive brand endorsements, paid appearances, training opportunities, an undisclosed cash prize, and gifts.
