Nigerian singer Tems has addressed misogynistic comments about her body on social media, urging males to focus on her music rather than her appearance.
Nigerian Grammy award-winning singer Tems has addressed online commentary about her body, calling out what she described as persistent and objectifying remarks.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Tems reacted to a comment by user @Fisayyy, who quoted a performance video from the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia and wrote, “Real one knows she just have big laps not actual ass.”
Tems, known for her soulful sound and confident stage presence, responded:
“Okay, seven years in. It’s time to pack it up. I never thought I’d need to say it, but you are all weird. ‘It’s small, it’s flat, it’s fat.’ Dog, it is MINE. ‘Show us your bumbum’ lol so me too I will turn and say ‘see’ Nah show ME yours first?? See how that feels?”
She continued, schooling men obsessed with her body:
“It’s just a body. I will add and lose weight. I never once hid my body; I just didn’t feel the need to prove or disprove anyone. The more you don’t like my body, the better for me actually. But it’s enough now. Move on from my bum.”
Tems’ response has sparked conversations around body autonomy and how men treat female bodies online. It has reminded fans that, beyond the noise, she remains a talented artist who deserves to be known for her music and not her body.
