Summary

Louis Akpojotor Mevoweoyo, a self-proclaimed pastor, has been arrested in Akwa Ibom for raping his daughter for over two years. The 14-year-old survivor reported the abuse, leading to his arrest. While blaming the crime on the devil, the suspect faces prosecution as police vow to ensure justice.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested Louis Akpojotor Mevoweoyo, a self-proclaimed pastor from Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, for raping his daughter for over two years.

Paraded alongside other crime suspects at the State Command Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, the rapist admitted to the crime, blaming his actions on the devil.

“I don’t know what came over me. I just believe it is the handiwork of the devil,” he said. “I am a pastor. I own a church. It is the work of the devil, but I have repented.”

According to the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Timfon John, the survivor, now 14 years old, reported the abuse to the police after enduring repeated assaults since she was 12. The latest incident, which occurred in Dec. 2024, prompted her to seek help, leading to her father’s arrest.

The PPRO confirmed that Louis first raped the child two years ago, with the December assault being the third recorded case. The police assured the public that the suspect would face prosecution while the survivor reportedly receives support as investigations continue.
