Summary
Less than 24 hours after his altercation with Dr Oby, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwaebonyi has doubled down to insult Senator Natasha on national television claiming she is not pretty and she is fond of making sexual harassment allegations falsely.
In a more shocking turn of events, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwaebonyi has doubled down on his insult of Senator Natasha on national television less than 24 hours after his altercation with Dr Oby Ezekwesili, which resulted in him calling her names and “an insult to womanhood.”
In a video interview with News Central TV, the Senator made claims, saying that Senator Natasha blackmailed her current husband into marrying her and scattered his family by “taking over her husband after marrying him.”
He also further went on to discredit Senator Natasha claiming that she had previously “falsely accused” a young man back when former President Goodluck Jonathan was in power.
“At the slightest provocation, she’ll come up and lay sexual harassment allegations, and I don’t know what is wrong with this lady. “Does she [Senator Natasha-Akpoti] think that she is the most beautiful woman on earth? In my own assessment, she’s not among the beautiful women in Nigeria, and it is high time we come hard on her,” he further said.
According to research carried out in 2024, 58% of women report having experienced potentially harassing behaviours, and 24% report having experienced sexual harassment at work. In another research published in March 2025, the pooled prevalence of workplace sexual violence was 26 per cent, with the prevalence being the highest in Africa.
However, Senator Nweboyi’s reaction, as that of others, highlights the automatic spear campaigns —rooted in sexism and misogyny— carried out by men every time a woman tries to speak up against injustice and demand justice. His careless remarks during a live interview show how confident he is in the societal patriarchal system that takes pride in oppressing and silencing women. Â
