Summary

A woman in Anambra State was allegedly arrested by police for not wearing a bra, according to a viral post on X. The incident follows rumours that the state government had introduced an order against women appearing in public without bras. Attempts by NFM to reach Ikenganyia T. Anthony, the Edo State Police PRO, and Christian for clarification have been unsuccessful, making it unclear whether the arrest actually took place.

Members of the Nigerian Police Force have reportedly arrested a woman in Anambra State for stepping outside her home without wearing a bra.

A viral post on X (formerly Twitter) on Feb. 26, 2025, claims that the arrest took place amid rumours that the Anambra State government had issued an order for the arrest and possible prosecution of women who appear in public without a bra. The video shows the woman wearing a dress while seated in the back of a police car as officers patrol the area for potential violators.

The alleged arrest comes despite a statement from Christian Aburime, press secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, debunking claims that the government had implemented such an order. Christian described the reports as “false and malicious” in a statement issued on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025.

Naija Feminists Media (NFM) contacted Ikenganyia T. Anthony, the Public Relations Officer of the Police in Edo State, for clarification, but he did not respond to calls. Efforts to get a direct comment from Christian himself have also been unsuccessful, leaving uncertainty about the accuracy of the reports.
