Summary: Prof. Ayodeji Olawumi Badejo, a Professor of Guidance and Counselling, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU). She will assume her role officially on September 20, 2026.
Prof. Ayodeji Olawumi Badejo, a Professor of Guidance and Counselling, has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU). Following her academic achievements, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved her appointment on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Professor Badejo is a 64-year-old intellect who has more than three decades of experience in teaching, research, academic administration, mentorship and institutional leadership. As the Chairperson of the Senate Curriculum Committee, she facilitated the development and introduction of new academic programmes.
During her tenure as Dean of the Faculty of Education (2014-2016), she oversaw the faculty’s significant growth, during which 20 academic staff members rose to the rank of full professor. She also successfully guided all academic programmes in the faculty to secure full National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation.
Professor Badejo is a Fellow of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) and the Association of Professional Counsellors in Nigeria (APROCON). She is also part of the American Psychological Association and the Nigerian Academy of Education.
According to the official statement announced by the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, Professor Badejo will succeed Professor Ibijoke Olatunji-Bello, who is retiring after her five-year tenure expires.
“Prof Badejo is the institution’s 10th substantive vice-chancellor. She will assume office on September 20 for a single five-year term,” the statement reads.
