Summary: Femrivied, in collaboration with Naija Feminists Media and VARSH Foundation, trained 8 women on emotional intelligence and practical strategies for workforce re-entry as part of the RediscoverHer initiative on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Femrivied, in collaboration with Naija Feminists Media and VARSH Foundation, held its fourth virtual RediscoverHer session on Friday, March 27, 2026, via Zoom. The session trained 8 women on emotional intelligence and practical strategies for long-term personal and professional success.
The session was facilitated by Dr Orletta Caldwell, PhD, a workforce development strategist, nonprofit executive, and educator based in Detroit, Michigan, with over 35 years of experience helping individuals and community organisations unlock opportunities for economic growth and sustainable careers.
Orletta opened by introducing the concept of emotional intelligence, defining it as the ability to understand and manage one’s own emotions while recognising the emotions of others. She stated that while many women spend significant time developing technical skills, emotional intelligence, which she described as a soft skill, could account for up to 85 per cent of professional success.
“People with strong emotional intelligence communicate better, resolve conflict more effectively, and build stronger relationships,” she stated.
She explained that emotional intelligence comprises four components: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management.
On self-awareness, she urged participants to begin naming their emotions correctly, recommending that they download an emotions chart and track what they were actually feeling rather than defaulting to broad categories like anger or fear. On self-management, she stated that emotionally intelligent individuals pause before reacting and choose responses that align with their goals and values.
She closed by encouraging participants to take an online emotional intelligence assessment to identify where they stood across the four components and to begin building the skill intentionally through reflection and practice.
RediscoverHer is a month-long empowerment initiative designed for African women who have stepped away from the workplace due to marriage, caregiving, or social expectations, with sessions held virtually to ensure accessibility for women across Nigeria and Africa.
With a series of sessions, the fourth RediscoverHer training, held on March 25, 2026, trained 10 women to rediscover their voices, regain confidence, and navigate low self-esteem and imposter syndrome as they re-entered the workforce.
