Summary: Activist Rinu Oduala called for the immediate removal of Delta Police PRO Bright Edafe after he made a sexually suggestive comment toward her amid nationwide outrage over women being assaulted and raped during the Ozoro Alue-Do Festival.
Activist Rinu Oduala, popularly known as Savvy Rinu, has called for the immediate removal of Bright Edafe, the Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, following a sexual remark he made toward her on X (formerly twitter).
The controversial exchange comes in the wake of nationwide outrage over videos showing women being harassed, assaulted and stripped during the Alue-Do Festival in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Rinu criticised the slow response of the Delta State Police in handling the festival assaults, tweeting:
“You are still waiting to be assured instead of already arresting people. If it’s to do video warning against protest now, we will see you fast!”
Bright Edafe responded to Rinu with a remark suggesting that his statements “turned her on,” a comment widely criticised as sexually inappropriate and unprofessional. Rinu responded firmly, demanding consequences for Edafe:
“A Nigerian policeman is thinking about how he turns Rinu on in a sexual assault case. Help me, Nigerians. Help me.”
She noted that the Delta Police PRO had been ordered by his superiors to delete the sexual remarks he made against her. However, she emphasised that simply deleting the comments does not amount to accountability.
“What should follow sexual harassment by a public official is apology and consequences. This is not justice. It is unacceptable.”
The controversy erupted after viral videos surfaced on March 20, 2026, showing women being chased, assaulted, and stripped in public during the Alue-Do Festival. The event is also described as a “rape festival.”
Following public outcry, the Delta State Government banned the festival and transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. The Delta State Police have arrested eleven persons in connection with the assaults, including the community head and festival organiser.
