Summary
The National Assembly has denied Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan's request to resume after her six-month suspension. The Senate insisted that her resumption would not be allowed until the verdict of the Court of Appeal is reviewed.
Despite completing her six-month suspension, the Senate has yet again denied Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan the right to resume at the Green House.
On August 28, 2025, Senator Natasha wrote to the Senate through the clerk to inform the house of the expiration of her six-month suspension and notify them of her intention to resume. However, the reply letter issued by the acting Clerk, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, dated September 4, 2025, rejected her request. He stated that her resumption is on hold until the judicial process is complete and the Senate has reviewed the court’s verdict.
“Until the judicial process is completed, and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption. You will be duly notified of the Senate’s decision as soon as the matter is resolved,” the letter reads in part.
Senator Natasha was justly suspended on March 6, 2025, despite the Federal High Court’s verdict in favour of her recall. The Senate security operatives blocked her entry when she attempted to resume in July. Meanwhile, her lawyer, Victor Giwa, has already established that everything is in place for her resumption.
