Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, has officially launched the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East geopolitical zone. This ceremony took place on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the old Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, Anambra State.

The National Community Food Bank Programme (NCFBP) is a grassroots social welfare initiative structured to help vulnerable groups against food insecurity, malnutrition, and economic hardship.

Operating under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), it serves as a sustainable federal intervention targeting widows, the elderly, persons with disabilities, nursing mothers, and young children with essential food assistance and nutrition education. The project also featured the distribution of empowerment grants, vocational tools and agricultural inputs to thousands of beneficiaries across the state’s 21 local government areas.

At the event, the First Lady said the programme aims to reduce hunger and directly improve human capital indices across Nigerian communities. She also said the partnership demonstrates the Federal Government and the state governments of the region’s commitment to inclusive economic growth and societal welfare.

“This initiative reinforced the Federal Government’s policies aimed at tackling poverty, promoting sustainable agriculture, and strengthening social safety nets in Anambra State and the wider South-East region,” the First Lady said.
