Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been honoured with a chieftaincy title by traditional rulers in Enugu State. The Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council gave her the title “Ugosimba 1 of Enugu” during her two-day official visit to the state on Monday, June 10, 2025.
The event took place at the Government House in Enugu, where the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers presented her with the title in recognition of her contributions to national development, humanitarian service, and the promotion of unity across Nigeria.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairperson of the Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Ikechukwu Asadu, said the title recognised her love for Enugu, humanitarian service, and commitment to national development.
“You served three terms in the Senate and were honoured with the Commander of the Order of Niger. But beyond politics, we admire your compassion for the less privileged, your support for nurses and midwives, and your work in uplifting humanity,” Asadu said.
In her remarks, Senator Remi Tinubu thanked the people of Enugu for the honour and warm welcome. She said the title was not just a personal honour but one for her husband, President Bola Tinubu, and their entire family.
Senator Tinubu is a former three-term senator and a recipient of the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).
