On June 18, 2026, Serah Yusuf, the Maltina Teacher of the Year 2025, unveiled a new foundation in Abuja aimed at improving access to quality education for children in slums and underserved communities.

The Sustainable Education and Empowerment through Digital (SEED) Foundation focuses on education, digital literacy, mentorship, leadership development, and empowerment programmes for disadvantaged children.

Serah is a teacher at Wisdom International School of Excellence in Abuja and the winner of the N10 million grand prize at the grand finale of the 11th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition, held in Lagos in November 2025.

Coming from a slum background herself, she has remained an advocate for underprivileged children in underserved communities, previously running the “Voice from the Slum” initiative, which provides financial aid, textbooks, school fees, uniforms, and sanitary pads to children who cannot afford them.

Speaking at the unveiling, Serah stated that the foundation was designed to reshape the future of children in disadvantaged communities by expanding their access to learning opportunities, adding that the initiative seeks to help children thrive through learning, discover brighter futures, and fulfil their purpose in life.

“SEED Foundation was established to ensure that children in slums and underserved communities are not defined by their environment but by their potential. Through education, digital skills, mentorship and empowerment, we want them to see beyond their current realities and embrace a future filled with possibilities.”

She honoured outstanding young creative writers at the event, stating that the awards were instituted to promote literacy, creativity, critical thinking, and effective communication among learners.

The foundation presented a fully funded scholarship, covering education from junior secondary school through university, to Ayodele Grate, with support from Kabir Abass of Wisdom International School of Excellence.

It also provided digital devices to Noko Modester and Uche Destiny, two students Serah mentored who won the PLAN International Nigeria Debate and Quizzes Competition 2025 after a six-month digital literacy training programme.
