Nigerian singer Simi has criticised men who complain about being ignored when their wives give birth, stating that the period after childbirth is not about the father.
The singer made this known in a video posted on her Instagram page on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, where she addressed men who ask, “How is the daddy?” during and after childbirth.
“I hear a man say, ‘ Why is it that when a woman is pregnant, or she’s giving birth, nobody asks how is the daddy is? ‘ It’s on-site. Are you with me? It’s on-site. How is Daddy? What happened to the daddy? I don’t understand,” Simi said in the video.
She questioned why men feel entitled to attention when they have not experienced the physical trauma of pregnancy and childbirth.
“Did your vagina tear? Did they have to stitch you back together because of your body? Did they cut you open and bring a human being out? Have you been growing a human being in your body with nutrients from your body, depleting nutrients every day, and your body transforming? Have you been swelling on and off? And yes, that’s an easy pregnancy,” she stated.
Simi listed the various complications women face during pregnancy, including months of nausea, inability to keep food down, pain from fibroids, and the risk of death. The singer stated that men who ask “How is the daddy?” in hospitals should not be taken seriously.
Simi stated that the only questions men should be asked are about their wives’ recovery and the baby’s well-being, because they are the primary people in the birth process.
Simi and her husband, Adekunle Gold, welcomed twin babies on January 8, 2026. The couple announced the joyful news through Adekunle Gold’s Snapchat story, where he wrote, “Asked God for another child and he blessed me double.”
This is the couple’s second childbirth, following the birth of their daughter, Adejare, affectionately known as Deja, in May 2020. The couple married in a private ceremony in January 2019 after years of friendship and musical collaboration.
