Nigerians have sharply criticised actor and self-proclaimed relationship expert Adams Kehinde, popularly known as Lege Miami, for his recent comments suggesting that married women who secure their phones with passwords are unfaithful.
Lege stated, “Any housewife who has a password on her phone is a prostitute. If a married woman can put a password on her phone, she is a prostitute. So, because your husband has his phone passworded, you also want to put yours as well? You are not ready for marriage. You can pack your load and leave the house. Quote me!”
Lege further asserted that men have the right to secure their phones and even cheat, but women should not enjoy the same freedoms. The remarks have sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians condemning his views as sexist and outdated.
A user, Walshak Kos, commented, “I wonder who gave men that impression that a man has the right to cheat, that women don’t have the right or urge to cheat. As a man, if you think that when a woman is married, she doesn’t get admirers, that’s a lie.
“A married woman also has admirers, but she chooses to stay faithful because of the union. If you have a faithful wife, be faithful to her too. Nobody has a more privileged right to cheat. Marriage is for commitment. What you don’t want your wife to do to you, don’t do it to her. Lead by example.”
Another user, Oluchi Divine, stated, “Na your type dey abuse woman mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.”
Kosisochukwu added, “Assuming someone passwords their phone because they’re cheating is misguided. In reality, most people secure their phones to prevent unauthorised access, not to hide infidelity.
“My husband knows my phone’s password, and I’m sure many others have similar arrangements. Your assertion that a housewife who passwords her phone is cheating seems to stem from personal experience. It’s possible that your experiences have led you to make unfair generalisations. Instead of sharing unfounded opinions publicly, perhaps you should address your concerns privately. As a public figure, it’s essential to be mindful of the impact your words may have on others.”
Lege Miami, known for his matchmaking events and online relationship advice, has yet to respond to the backlash.
