Summary
In a triumphant victory of 3-1, the Super Falcons have secured a place at the 2026 WAFCON tournament. This qualification signifies Nigeria as the only African nation to appear in every edition of the tournament.
In a 3-1 aggregate victory against Benin Republic’s Amazons, Super Falcons have qualified for the 2026 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The match took place on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
WAFCON is an international women’s football tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Since its inception, the Super Falcons have won the WAFCON title 10 times, making them the first African nation to achieve this milestone.
Although the Amazon started with vigour, Super Falcons took the lead in the 12th minute when defender Ashleigh Plumptre sent a powerful left-footed strike from the edge of the net to score the first goal. She rose above the Benin defence to head home a well-placed cross from Esther Okoronkwo.
This victory signifies that Nigeria advances to the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco, where they will defend the title they won earlier in the year. The tournament is scheduled for March 17, 2026, through April 3, 2026. It will also double as the ticket for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
