Summary

Alma Asinobi, a Nigerian travel entrepreneur, has announced her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest time by visiting all seven continents in under 70 hours. Through this challenge, she aims to shed light on the difficulties faced by travellers with low-mobility passports, particularly Africans. Her journey begins on March 15 and will be documented under the hashtags “#AlmaChasingContinents” and “#7in70.”

Renowned Nigerian travel entrepreneur and content creator Alma Asinobi has announced her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the “Fastest Time to Visit All Seven Continents.” Alma is a storyteller and content strategist for several tech startups.

“On March 15th, I’ll be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘Fastest Time to Visit All Seven Continents’—one of two records this month,” Alma said. “I’m going on an adventure from Antarctica all the way to Australia, stepping foot on every continent in between in less than 70 hours—to beat the current record of 73 hours set by Sujoy Mitra and Dr Ali Irani from India.”

Alma’s journey is not just about setting a record. She aims to highlight the challenges faced by travellers with low-mobility passports, particularly the Nigerian passport, which ranks among the weakest globally. Since obtaining her first passport in 2019, she has travelled to about 30 countries, experiencing both remarkable and frustrating moments, the latter often due to visa restrictions.

“I want to shed more light on passport privilege, or in our case… the lack thereof,” Alma stated. She revealed that she had to apply for over ten visas, with some requiring multiple attempts before approval. “We simply cannot afford to accept and be silent about the second-class treatment we’re subjected to when it comes to travel and visa requirements,” she emphasised.

Her challenge, tagged “#AlmaChasingContinents” and “#7in70”, seeks to inspire others to explore the world despite the limitations imposed by their passports. She hopes to draw attention to the struggles of millions, particularly Africans, who face significant barriers in global mobility.

Beyond this record-breaking attempt, Alma plans to return to Lagos to set another Guinness World Record, encouraging supporters to follow her journey for updates. “I’m counting on you for your support throughout this adventure,” she wrote.

If successful, Alma Asinobi will not only etch her name in history but also spark crucial conversations about global travel inequality. She will join the growing list of Nigerian women who have achieved remarkable feats and broken a Guinness World Record.
