Nurses at Uwani General Hospital in Enugu State have decried the poor conditions at the health centre, citing a lack of light, water, and oxygen, as well as a dirty environment, as the core problems. This development was shared in a video posted on X on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Uwani General Hospital is a public healthcare facility located in the Coal Camp area of Enugu South, Enugu State. It is a state-owned health institution for the Uwani community; however, recent reports from late March 2026 indicate critical infrastructure challenges facing the facility.
According to the nurses, the hospital’s lack of electricity and water forced them to work in total darkness while performing basic medical duties. They also lamented the unclean environment resulting from the absence of cleaners commonly found in hospitals. They mentioned the presence of reptiles around the environs whenever rain falls
“There is no water, light, and everywhere is littered because there are no cleaners to clean the place,” one of the nurses lamented.
Another health care professional also raised a major concern about a pregnant woman currently in labour. She questioned how they could safely manage potential complications or deliveries without light or even basic oxygen supply. They even mentioned the presence of snakes due to the bushy and un-fumigated
“To the government, how are you helping us? This is a government-owned hospital. It’s very poor that a government-owned hospital lacks light, water, or oxygen to give birth,” the nurses said.
