Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu has revealed that she called off her wedding after surviving a violent assault from her fiancé.
The actress shared her story in an interview with “Real Life with Aunty Ayo” on October 25, 2025.
In the video, she recounted how a disagreement turned violent when her fiancé broke down the kitchen door and attacked her.
“He asked me a question and I said, ‘Tunde, please, today is not the day of quarrel.’ I went to the kitchen to boil water, and he just broke the kitchen door that day. I will never forget till I die,” she said.
“He dragged my hair; one strand came out with blood. I didn’t know where I got the strength from. I just picked a pestle. I was ready to kill him that day. I don’t mind going to jail.”
Ngozi added that the experience made her realise she could not continue with the marriage. “I don’t believe that marriage is a do-or-die affair. When the beating is too much, you’ve got to move. If you take it once, forget it, you must be ready to take it for the rest of your life,” she said.
Many Nigerians took to X and Instagram to commend Ngozi for speaking out and to discuss the broader issue of domestic violence faced by women.
One user, @rafiah_o, wrote, “Any day your partner beats you, beat your own back. If you aren’t as strong, find an assist. Every single time I have seen women do this, it works like mad.”
Another user, @NnukwuMama, added, “It’s unquantifiable how much violence and physical trauma men have meted out to the women in their lives. It doesn’t matter the class and level of the woman, a man somewhere has left a violent imprint on her life.”
Similarly, @oloricoitus said, “So thankful for the older generation who are now speaking out”
