We invite writers, artists, and creatives to share their reflections and expressions on diverse subjects, including historical subjects related to women, sexual health and reproductive rights, gender-based violence, and feminism.

Naija Feminists Media (NFM) is a revolutionary force in Nigeria’s media landscape, dedicated to amplifying women’s voices and challenging the status quo. Our mission is to mainstream feminism and promote gender equality and inclusivity through diverse knowledge products. Our content aims to demystify harmful gender stereotypes, amplify Black feminist perspectives, and shape a more equitable society.

What is the Collective Action Now Campaign?

This is an annual global campaign by NFM on Women’s Month to amplify women’s voices and call for more tangible actions and initiatives to advance gender equality. The #CollectiveActionNow campaign emphasises the urgent need for systemic change, highlighting the role of individuals, communities, and governments in eradicating gender inequality. It is a powerful platform for advocacy, education, and solidarity across diverse regions and causes.

Join us in declaring “#CollectiveActionNow” and calling for a systemic end to societal gender inequality. We welcome submissions from women, including academics, poets, grassroots groups, and activists committed to gender equality. Let’s unite in advocacy during this Women’s Month.

Submission Guidelines for Campaign

We are accepting submissions in the following categories:

– News Stories (Written, Photo, and Video)

– Poems

– Articles

– Essays

– Photographs

– Photo Essays

– Illustrations

– Paintings (including digital)

– Graphic Designs

-Short Stories 

Submission Requirements

Below are the submission requirements, including language, style, and word count;

Word count

  • Articles, Essays, and Short Stories: Between 1,000 and 3,000 words.
  • Poems: Between 12 and 20 lines.
  • Photo Essays: Between 10-15 images, detailed captions for each image between 60-100 words with metadata embedded. 
  • Videos: Between 1-5 mins and fully captioned in English 

Originality

Submissions must be original works that have not been published elsewhere and are not under consideration for publication.

Language

Works must be submitted in English; videos can be in other languages but must be subtitled in English. 

Content Focus

Submissions should highlight the gender gap in Africa and focus on one or more of the following areas:

  – Women’s History: including feminist figures the history of feminist movement, amongst others

  – Domestic Violence

  – Sexual Harassment

  – Rape and Sexual Assault

  – Economic Abuse

  – Female Genital Mutilation

  – Child Marriage

  – Sex Trafficking

  – Honour Killings

  – Reproductive Coercion

  – Emotional/Psychological Abuse

  – Workplace Violence

  – Cyber Harassment

  – Intimate Partner Violence

  – Maternity Discrimination

  – Street Harassment

  – Educational Inequality

  • Publication Opportunities: Selected works will be published on our website and shared across our social media platforms (LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram).
  • Social Media Recognition: Contributors will receive shoutouts and due recognition throughout the campaign.
  • Join in using your work to advance gender equality and contribute to gender justice.

NB: Please note that there is no financial remuneration for submission.

How to Submit

Send in your submission(s) to naijafeminists@gmail.com copy: partnerships@naijafeministsmedia.org.ng using the subject line: Accelerate Action; Collective Action Now followed by the category and focus area, i.e. ‘Collective_Action_Now_Workplace Regulations.’ The submission deadline is Monday, March 10, 2025

Note:

NFM does not require applicants to pay at any point in its application process, whether during or after. All successful candidates are selected based on merit.
