In commemoration of the 2025 World Cancer Day, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady called on Nigerians to take proactive steps in regard to their health by making it top priority, highlighted the need for awareness, early detection, support for one another, and equal access to treatment.

Every February 4 is celebrated as the international day for Cancer with the intent to raise awareness, mobilise actions against its epidemic spread, urge its prevention, and make the treatment accessible and equitable to all. This  year’s commemoration is themed UnitedByUnique to remind humanity that it takes collective actions to win the fight against this disease.

In a message to Nigerians for the World Cancer Day this year, Oluremi said, “As we observe World Cancer Day today, we are reminded of the burden cancer places on millions of individuals and families in Nigeria, and around the globe.”

Oluremi further emphasises the significance of adapting cancer treatments to cater to the unique needs of each individual.

“In Nigeria, cancer remains a leading cause of death, but with determination and partnership, we can change this narrative. Every individual, regardless of their socio-economic status, deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life, free from the devastating impact of cancer,” she said.
