Summary

Popular artist Yemi Alade has called out the managers of CloutAfrica and CoolFMNigeria for blacklisting her music on their platform after she declined performing at their event in December 2023.

Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter  Yemi Alade has publicly accused Cool FM Nigeria and Clout Africa of intentionally blacklisting her music for over a year, following her decision not to attend one of their events.

In a tweet posted on Nov. 21, 2024, Yemi described the alleged actions of the media organisation as “shameful” and “petty,” claiming they have embarked on a campaign to damage her career.

According to Yemi, the issue dates back to December 2023, when she declined to perform at a Cool FM/Clout Africa event. She states that, in response, both organisations blacklisted her music across their platforms.

“They’re targeting an artist for a whole year over an event,” she stated. “I didn’t attend, I apologized, and even reached out to their boss, but he refused to respond to my messages.”

Yemi further criticised the organisations, accusing them of acting as “gatekeepers” and “small gods” within the Nigerian music industry. Despite her efforts to resolve the issue, including attempts at reconciliation, she expressed frustration at their lack of response.

“My team and I have traveled the world, met presidents and influential leaders. When issues arise, we address them. But @CoolFMNigeria and @CloutAfrica are refusing to forgive, all because of a free show?” she remarked.

“My God will fight for me, and I will hold my peace. Since December 2023 … I personally reached out in January….. still, you are refusing to play my music and give my team a hard time. YOU’RE NOT GATE KEEPERS, and YOU ARE NOT GOD Mr Serge Noujaim and Mr Joseph Adamu   …. MY GOD WILL FUSTRATE YOU ALL. @coolfmlagos @cloutafrica,” she further said.

As of now, neither Cool FM Nigeria nor Clout Africa has publicly responded to Alade’s allegations.

The incident has ignited a broad discussion on social media, with many fans expressing support for Yemi Alade and condemning the alleged actions of the media organisations.

“For Yemi Alade to speak out…..just know that she has exercised patience enough. Without them, you’re already getting that recognition you deserve. It’s well shaaa.”, @ChristianKalu tweeted.

“They did not play your music but see you Grammy Nominated. God is not man. They won’t remain in that position forever either. Hold your peace,” @FinesseLewa also stated
