Thirteen men have been arrested in Misau, Bauchi State, over the reported gang rape and procurement of an unsafe abortion that led to the death of an 18-year-old girl.
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 13 men suspected in connection with the gang rape, procurement of an unsafe abortion, and subsequent death of an 18-year-old girl in Misau town, Misau Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, confirmed the arrests in a statement on April 24, 2025, describing the incident as tragic and deeply disturbing.
According to CSP Ahmed, the case came to light on April 4, 2025, after credible intelligence revealed that two men, identified as Usman Umar (22) of Fawari area and Sallau Ayuba (21) of Lariski area, lured the teenager and engaged in repeated gang rape with her at various locations, including Mahmood Lodge in Misau.
When they discovered the girl was pregnant, they contacted a third suspect, Abubakar Mohammed (35), a second-year student of A.D. Rufai College for Islamic and Legal Studies, to perform an abortion. He was paid ₦40,000 to terminate the pregnancy.
CSP Ahmed explained that after Abubakar administered an injection to induce the abortion, the girl lost consciousness and became critically ill. She was rushed to the General Hospital in Misau and later referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, where she was confirmed dead during treatment.
Police investigations led to the arrest of the three main perpetrators, who have confessed to their involvement. Further interrogation uncovered the reported complicity of 10 other men, including Alkali Kawu, Maule Mai Ride, Mai Tomatoes, Danguli, Yakubu, and a civil servant identified as Kura. Four additional suspects remain under investigation at the Misau Divisional Police Headquarters.
CSP Wakil reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice, adding that all suspects will be thoroughly profiled and charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Misau community, prompting calls for justice and improved protection for young girls across the state.
