As part of the global 16 Days of Activism campaign, Tabitha Empowerment Centre and its partners are urging Nigerians to unite against gender-based violence (GBV).
Executive directors and founders from Gender Strategy Advancement International, Girls Education Access Initiative, Sofadondo, and the Centre for Teens Health and Development have expressed their collective commitment to ending gender-based violence. Their united messages emphasise the importance of solidarity, empowerment, and investment in creating a safe and equitable future for women and girls.
Dr. Adaora Sydney-Jack, a broadcast journalist with Gender Strategy Advancement International, emphasised the devastating impact of gender-based violence, stating, “Gender-based violence continues to be a pervasive issue, robbing women and girls of their dignity, their safety, and their potential.”
Echoing this sentiment, Oluwakemi Gbadamosi, founder and executive director of the Girls Education Access Initiative, expressed her support for the campaign, saying,
“It gives me such great pleasure to lend my voice and the voice of our organization, alongside Tabitha Empowerment Center and its partners, to unite against all forms of sexual and gender-based violence against women and girls.”
They also reaffirmed Tabitha Empowerment Center’s commitment to raising awareness and fostering action in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).
“As the world marks the 16 days of activism, Tabitha Empowerment Centre is focused on activities to combat gender-based violence against women and girls. We also provide a safe space for survivors to share their experiences and access support to give them some sense of belonging,” said Christina Uzo-Okamgba, founder and executive director.
Babatunde Zion Afolabi, a member of the Sofadondo Advocacy Organization, also praised the efforts, stating, “I want to commend Tabitha Empowerment Centre and all stakeholders for their fight against gender-based violence and sexual harassment in society.”
This year’s theme, “UNiTE! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls,” emphasises the critical need for collective action. The campaign calls on individuals and organisations to educate others, support survivors, and stand for justice and equality.
Group advocates urge all Nigerians to take responsibility for creating a safer future for women and girls by fostering empowerment, safety, and investment in prevention. Together, a world free from Gender-based violence is possible.
