On January 27, 2025, Betty Otimenyin officially assumed office as the first female Commissioner of Police in Edo State. She is the 49th Commissioner of Police to be deployed to the state and was warmly received by senior command officers.

In a brief interview with journalists, Betty, who hails from Edo State, outlined her commitment to tackling crime in the South-South state. “I will do a lot of things until the crime level comes down,” she stated.
The new police chief also expressed her determination to address extortion among officers, emphasising that the Inspector-General of Police has a zero-tolerance policy. She further pledged that the command would intensify efforts to combat violence against women and children.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Otimenyin enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1992. Over her career, she has served in various capacities and commands, including the Force Intelligence Department (FID), where she held the position of Commissioner of Police and Administration.
Betty Otimenyin began her policing career at the Bauchi State Police Command, serving in various divisions. She later worked in Plateau, Kebbi, Rivers, and Edo State commands before being redeployed to Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Her extensive experience and commitment to service are expected to contribute significantly to maintaining law and order in Edo State.
