Male violence against women and girls (VAWG), also known as gender-based violence (GBV), is a grave violation of human rights rooted in long-standing gender inequality and patriarchal systems. It is a global crisis: one in three women worldwide has experienced physical or sexual violence in her lifetime, mostly perpetrated by men.
In Nigeria alone, the DOHS Cares Foundation recorded over 140 reported cases of femicide in 2025. At Naija Feminists Media (NFM), we actively documented multiple cases of male violence against women and girls throughout the year. Below are five of the most horrific cases we reported.
- Nigerian Man Christopher Odu Beats and Strangles Wife to Death
Christopher Odu brutally beat and strangled his wife, Barrister Felicia Temilope Odu, to death on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Adamo, Ikorodu, Lagos State. Reports revealed that the attack occurred in the presence of one of their sons. Felicia, a 56-year-old lawyer and mother, had only recently been called to the Nigerian Bar in September 2025.
- Nigerian Man Lintex Ogale Disguises as Dispatch Rider, Murders Ex-Girlfriend
Lintex Ogale was arrested for the murder of interior designer Deborah Moses, popularly known as Deb’rah Porsche, in Lagos on September 3, 2025, months after she ended their relationship. Police reports revealed that he initially attempted to cause an explosion by cutting a gas pipe outside her home.
When that failed, he forced his way into her residence and stabbed her multiple times. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti.
- Man Murders Woman in Cold Blood in Abuja Hotel Room
A viral video exposed the murder of Aladi Offikwu Johnson, also known as Tessy, in a hotel room in Gwarinpa, Abuja. She checked into the hotel on June 16, 2025, accompanied by an unidentified man.
CCTV footage later showed the man leaving alone. Hotel staff discovered Tessy unconscious during routine checks, and she was later pronounced dead after a medical examination.
- Nigerian Men Weaponise AI to Sexually Abuse Women Online
In a disturbing trend, Nigerian men have increasingly used AI tools to generate fake nude images of women and weaponise them for harassment and humiliation online.
On June 2, 2025, X user @Yewandeakinrim4 posted a photo of herself, only for men to flood her comments with abuse. Within hours, AI-generated nude images of her began circulating. Rather than condemn the act, many men blamed her, turning the platform into a site of coordinated digital violence.
- Udochi Amala Sets Wife and Children Ablaze
Udochi Amala, a 40-year-old man, set his wife, Amarachi Amala, and their three children on fire on May 17, 2025, in Onicha Ngwa, Abia State, over unfounded allegations of infidelity.
Despite admitting that his wife was never seen with another man, he committed the act and attempted to flee. One of their daughters later died from severe burns.
These cases represent only a fraction of the violence women and girls face daily, as many incidents go undocumented and unreported. There is an urgent need for stronger protective laws, effective enforcement and genuine implementation to safeguard the lives of women and girls in Nigeria.
