Summary: Nigerian singer Simi has condemned sexual assault, urging men to hold perpetrators accountable and calling for stricter consequences following the reported rape of a TikToker identified as Mirabel.

Nigerian singer Simi has strongly condemned sexual violence, calling on men to take greater responsibility in addressing the issue.

In a recent post on X, the Afrobeats artiste expressed outrage over persistent cases of sexual assault against women. She stated that perpetrators should face severe punishment for their crimes.

“I’m sick of this. Stop raping women, They need to castrate rapists and burn them.” she wrote

Simi stressed in subsequent x posts that men must hold other men accountable instead of creating “safe spaces” for harmful behaviour. She criticised those who distance themselves from the problem by claiming they are not personally involved while ignoring the actions of their peers.

The afrobeat singer also highlighted the fear many women live with daily, noting that she carries pepper spray for protection when walking alone or with her daughter.

“Almost every woman I know personally has been sexually assaulted at some point in their lives,” she stated.

She further said that while false accusations should have consequences, they should not be used to silence survivors or dismiss the broader issue of sexual violence.

Simi’s comments come after a TikToker identified as Mirabel shared videos saying tearfully that she was sexually raped in her home on February 15 by a man after she refused to give him her phone number.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) confirmed that they have successfully established communication with a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed that Mirabel had been discharged from the hospital. Naija Feminists Media have also  issued a press release calling for an immediate investigation and prosecution in solidarity with the survivor.
