Summary: Sophia Momodu’s lawyer, Ebelechukwu Enedah, has issued a pre-action notice against Davido over alleged harassment, cyberbullying, and defamation. She is demanding a public apology, a retraction of the statements and N1 billion in compensation.
Legal tensions have escalated in the ongoing custody dispute between Sophia Momodu and Afrobeats singer Davido, as Sophia’s lawyer, Ms Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, has issued a N1 billion pre-action notice against the singer over reported harassment, cyberbullying and defamation. The notice, filed by Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, follows a tense court session on February 12, 2026, at the High Court of Lagos State in the ongoing custody case concerning Sophia and Davido’s daughter, Imade Adeleke.
According to the letter dated February 24 and signed by Decency Nkume (Associate) and Naamdi Oragwe (Partner), Ms Ebelechukwu was subjected to verbal attacks during cross-examination in court. The legal team claims that the court directed the singer to apologise in open court, but that he refused. The situation reportedly escalated after the hearing, when posts featuring Ms Ebelechukwu’s photograph were shared online.
The notice alleges that Davido made statements on his verified Instagram and X accounts describing the lawyer as “the worst lawyer ever,” directly tagging her and exposing her to public backlash. She also claims that following the posts, she received abusive messages, threatening calls, and explicit threats to her safety and that of her family. The letter further states that the singer mistakenly tagged gospel artiste Tosin Bee, wrongly assuming he was related to the lawyer, thereby exposing uninvolved individuals to online hostility.
With over 20 years of post-call experience, Ebelechukwu described the alleged actions as libellous and damaging to her professional reputation. She emphasised that legal practitioners must be able to carry out their duties without intimidation, especially in cases involving the custody and welfare of a minor.
The lawyer is demanding that Davido immediately stop all public commentary about her and the case, issue a public apology and retraction on his verified social media platforms, and publish formal apologies in at least two national newspapers. She is also seeking N1 billion in compensation for alleged reputational damage and emotional distress. The legal team has given the singer seven days to comply, failing which court proceedings will commence at the Lagos High Court.
