Naija Feminists Media is set to host an X Space discussion on the topic, “Rape Culture: Why Perpetrators of Sexual Assault Walk Free in Nigeria,” as part of activities marking Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The event is scheduled to be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 5:00 PM WAT.

April is globally recognised as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a period dedicated to raising awareness about sexual violence, supporting survivors, and promoting prevention through advocacy and education. The 2026 theme, “25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” marks the 25th anniversary of the campaign, highlighting progress made while reinforcing the need for continued action against sexual violence.

The X Space aims to raise awareness, educate communities, and address the systemic issues that enable sexual violence. The discussion will examine rape culture in Nigeria and explore why perpetrators of sexual assault often evade justice, with a focus on legal gaps, societal norms, and institutional challenges.

The session will feature a panel of experts, including Rhoda Oluwatosin Olorunfemi, a human rights journalist and gender advocate; Omotuemen Favour, co-founder of Save the Girl Child Initiative; and Emmanuella Osuji, a legal practitioner.

Other speakers include Tinuade Mary, Executive Director of Women Too Africa Foundation; Amy Onyinyechi Chinekwu Onwumere; and Dogo Joy Njeb, also a legal practitioner.

Join the conversation on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 5:00 PM as we discuss how addressing sexual violence is key to achieving justice, accountability and safer communities for women and marginalised groups.
