Summary: Nonye Soludo, the fifth first lady of Anambra State, visited orphanages on Sunday, April 19, 2026, as part of Mothering Sunday activities, calling on Nigerians to extend love, care, and kindness to vulnerable children across the country.
Nonye Soludo, a Nigerian computer scientist, entrepreneur, and environmentalist, and the fifth First Lady of Anambra State, visited orphanages in Anambra State on Sunday, April 19, 2026, as part of activities marking Mothering Sunday.
The first lady used the visit to call for improved welfare and sustained kindness towards less-privileged children across Nigeria.
She stated that children in orphanages need and deserve love, care, and compassion at all times, describing them as the foundation upon which society stands.
“Sharing laughter, warmth, and hope with my children at the orphanage reminded us of the true essence of motherhood — caring for the vulnerable and putting smiles on faces that need it the most,” she stated. “Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give is kindness, and the joy it brings is priceless.”
Mothering Sunday is a traditional Christian celebration held on the fourth Sunday of Lent, observed on April 19, 2026, to honour mothers and mother churches. As part of the celebration, Nonye recognised the contributions of mothers to society, stating that mothers play a central role not only in birthing children but in sustaining peace, unity, and progress within communities.
