Summary: Tonto Dikeh has shared her past struggle with drug addiction, calling for compassion, understanding, and prayers for people battling substance abuse.

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has shared a deeply personal reflection on her past struggle with drug addiction, urging the public to show compassion and pray for those currently battling substance abuse.

In a lengthy Instagram post, she encouraged people to direct their anger at drugs and addiction, rather than the individuals affected by them. She stressed that many people living with addiction are silently dealing with emotional pain and need understanding instead of judgment.

“Hate the drugs. Hate the addiction. But don’t ever stop praying for the one stuck in it,” she wrote. “Cause behind that chaos is a soul that’s hurting, lost, and desperate for a way out.”

Reflecting on her own experience, the actress recalled being frequently misunderstood and judged during her lowest moments. Tonto Dikeh explained that her addiction was not driven by a desire for self-destruction, but was instead a coping mechanism for emotional pain she struggled to articulate.

“I wasn’t lost because I loved the darkness. I was lost because I was hurting,” she wrote. “I was desperate for relief, for peace, for someone to see past my actions and hear my cry.”

She added that substance abuse, in her case, was a symptom of deeper emotional wounds rather than the root problem. The actress also credited her recovery to divine intervention, noting that her healing came after being dismissed by many.

“Drugs weren’t the problem; they were the symptom. Addiction wasn’t my identity; it was my escape from pain I didn’t know how to name,” she said.

She concluded by urging people to hate drugs and addiction, but to never stop praying for those trapped in it, adding that individuals struggling with addiction are not weak or worthless, but can still be restored, noting that she is living proof that healing and purpose can exist beyond chaos.
