Former Big Brother Naija housemate Queen Mercy Atang has sparked widespread online discussion after Guinness World Records reacted to her viral bread-inspired outfit worn at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. It began after Guinness World Records commented on a video she shared on Instagram, referencing an existing fashion-related category.
The organisation wrote: “Well, we do have a record for the largest cake dress … hmmm.”
Reacting to the viral comment, Queen Mercy Atang acknowledged the attention in a post on her page, saying:
“Hello @guinnessworldrecords, I see you in the comment section.”
Queen Mercy Atang became one of the most talked-about celebrities at the AMVCA after appearing on the red carpet in a costume designed to resemble loaves of bread, complete with matching accessories. She later explained that the outfit was inspired by her identity as an entrepreneur in the baking industry, describing it as a representation of her bread empire.
According to Guinness World Records, the current title for the world’s largest wearable cake dress stands at 131.15kg (289lb 13oz). The record was set by Natasha Coline Kim Fah Lee Fokas of SweetyCakes GmbH in Bern, Switzerland, on January 15, 2023.
The 12th AMVCA red carpet was held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria. The glamorous event at Eko Hotel and Suites featured top African celebrities in different fashion styles, from sculptural gowns to culturally inspired outfits, with the main ceremony held later in the evening.
