Princess Islamiyat Oyefusi has formally entered the race for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after picking up her nomination form at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
Her emergence adds to the growing list of aspirants positioning for Lagos’ top political office ahead of the 2027 elections. She is currently one of the few female figures actively contesting for the governorship position in the state.
Princess Oyefusi, who was the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, recently aligned with the ADC to pursue her 2027 ambition. The party had earlier, on December 7, 2025, formally recognised her as its governorship aspirant ahead of the upcoming election cycle.
She has also received endorsement from the West African Women Association (WAWA), which cited her Community Medics initiative as evidence of her commitment to public service and community development. Her campaign is anchored on what she describes as a “people-centred” governance approach focused on rewarding hard work, improving security and reducing the cost of living.
A key pillar of her manifesto is the transformation of Lagos transportation through an integrated system combining rail, bus, and waterways to ease mobility across the state. She brings over 25 years of experience in boardroom and public sector governance, having managed multi-million-dollar projects across different sectors. She currently serves as a Governance Partner at TLGP Partnership.
She holds a law degree from Aberdeen Law School and an MBA from the University of Hull.
