South African music star Tyla made history at the 52nd edition of the American Music Awards after securing two major awards at the ceremony held on May 25, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The singer, born Tyla Laura Seethal, won the award for Best Afrobeats Artist, beating top African acts including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema and Moliy.

She also claimed the fan-voted Social Song of the Year award for her hit single, CHANEL, making her the only African act to win at this year’s AMAs. Tyla entered the awards ceremony as the most-nominated African artist in AMA history with four nominations.

The double AMA victory adds to Tyla’s growing list of international achievements. The singer previously won her first Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance with her breakout hit Water.

She has also enjoyed continued success at the MTV Video Music Awards, winning Best Afrobeats Video in both 2024 and 2025 for “Water” and Push 2 Start, respectively. The singer has also secured two nominations for the upcoming BET Awards scheduled for June, including a historic nomination in the Video of the Year category.

Tyla is currently preparing for the release of her highly anticipated second studio album, which is expected to debut in July 2026.
