During Football Match, Asisat Oshoala Calls Rescue of Oyo Kidnapped Victims

Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has called for the safe return of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, using Nigeria’s international friendly against Senegal on June 5, 2026, to draw attention to the victims’ plight. She delivered the message after scoring Nigeria’s opening goal in the Super Falcons’ 2–1 victory over Senegal in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Following her goal celebration, the six-time African Women’s Player of the Year displayed messages reading, “Save the Teachers” and “Bring Back Our Children,” urging authorities and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of the abducted victims.

The appeal comes amid growing concern over the abduction of at least 39 pupils and seven teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The incident sparked public outrage and protests, while the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Oyo State has embarked on an indefinite strike, demanding stronger action from authorities to address the security situation and ensure the victims’ safe return.

Her intervention adds to appeals from activists, religious leaders, public figures, and civil society groups who have condemned the incident and called on security agencies to intensify rescue efforts.

Many Nigerians are still hoping for the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers. Asisat Oshoala’s message adds to growing calls for urgent action to tackle insecurity in schools and communities across the country.
