- Unilag Student Affairs Faces Backlash After Promoting Rape Culture
The University of Lagos (Unilag) Student Affairs Division under a counselling flyer titled “Counselling Tips for Ladies,” which advised female students to avoid dressing to kill to prevent rape and sexual harassment. The Unilag flyer reflects a structural failure in how Nigerian educational institutions approach sexual violence prevention, placing the burden of avoiding rape on women rather than on the institutional systems designed to prevent, investigate, and punish it.
- Nigerian Wrestlers Secure Prestigious Scholarship to Iowa State University
Nigerian wrestlers, Kolawole Esther, Christinah Ogunsanya and Adekoye Jumoke, have secured prestigious scholarship transfers to the NCAA Division I programme at Iowa State University. This milestone was confirmed by the head coach of the Nigerian women’s wrestling team, Akuh Purity, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
- Aevin Dugas Hands Over Largest Afro Crown to Jessica Martinez
On Guinness World Records Day 2025, Aevin Dugas, who held the Guinness World Record for the largest afro on a living person for 15 years, officially passed the title to new record holder Jessica Jess L. Martinez during a special ceremony at a hair salon in New York City. Jess’s afro measured 11.42 inches tall, 12.2 inches wide, and six feet two inches in circumference, surpassing the previous record in all three categories.

Super Falcons midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene has spoken out about the treatment of women in Nigerian football, saying many female players are made to feel that marriage and motherhood mark the end of their careers. Speaking to BBC Sport Africa, the four-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champion said many of the reactions she has seen online reflect a wider belief that women lose their value once they become wives or mothers.
