Hon Natasha Osawaru Idibia Reveals Presidential Ambition

On Sunday, September 13, 2026, Hon. Natasha Osawaru Idibia declared her ambition to become Nigeria’s president. She made this declaration at her grandfather Chief Gabriel Igbinedion’s 92nd birthday celebration in Benin City, Edo State.

Natasha Osawaru represents Egor Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly. She holds a law degree from Igbinedion University, Okada, and a master’s in fashion design from Parsons School of Design in New York. She is married to musician Innocent “2Baba” Idibia and first contested her Assembly seat under the Peoples Democratic Party in 2023.

Speaking directly to her grandfather at the private event, Idibia paraphrased her admiration for his influence on her life before making the declaration.  

“I promise you that I’ll be the president of this country before you go. And I’ll make you very, very proud, and I promise to do better and better.”

Chief Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom and founder of Igbinedion University, is one of Nigeria’s most prominent entrepreneurs and philanthropists. Natasha Osawaru is one of his grandchildren, and her extended family, including former Edo governor Lucky Igbinedion and former lawmaker Omosede Igbinedion,  has a long-standing presence in Nigerian politics.
