Hello Friend,
We are excited to introduce our new exciting project–Naija Feminists Media (NFM). We are a revolutionary force in Nigeria’s media landscape, and our work is to amplify the voices of women who have historically been marginalised and underrepresented in the media. Our content addresses feminist subjects, exposes injustice towards women, highlights women’s experiences, celebrates women’s achievements, and inspires a change for the status quo. We further support feminist action and partner with people in the local community to promote women’s rights.
Our team is a tribe of fierce feminists united in our quest for a world where women thrive and shine. As such, our newsletter will help you better understand feminism, gain access to relevant knowledge products, and stay up-to-date with all our activities.
We invite you to join and support our mission by reading and sharing our newsletter, partnering with us, donating to fund our activities, and more. As the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 notes, no sustainable world can exist without women’s liberation.
So, together, let’s dismantle the patriarchy and advance for a world where women and girls are treated with fairness, respect, and dignity.
With love, strength, and glitter,The Naija Feminists Community

Advancing Positive Peace in Maternity Health Care System in NigeriaBy: Deronke Abdul
Maternal mortality refers to the death of a woman during pregnancy or within 42 days after the abortion, irrespective of the duration and place of the pregnancy. It may be from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management, but not from accidental or unintentional causes.
In Nigeria, 40 million women of childbearing age (between 15 and 49 years of age) suffer a disproportionately high level of health issues surrounding birth. While the country represents 2.4 per cent of the world’s population, it currently contributes 10 per cent of global deaths for pregnant mothers. UNICEF’s latest figures show a maternal mortality rate of 576 per 100,000 live births, which is the fourth highest on Earth. Each year, approximately 262,000 babies die at birth, the world’s second-highest national total. Infant mortality currently stands at 69 per 1,000 live births, while for under-fives, it rises to 128 per 1,000 live births.
Addressing the factors contributing to maternal mortality is paramount for building a world of peace, safety, security, and women’s empowerment. As such, we encourage you to read the myths, case studies, and solutions to improving maternal healthcare here.

Our team was represented at the Partnership for Justice’s five-day capacity-building workshop. We strategised with other human rights defenders on protection mechanisms in the course of our work, how to engage in peaceful conflict resolution, and how to improve our impact in our communities. The event, held in Lagos, was from July 22nd to 26th at Ivy Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
