Summary: Abuja-based lawyer Princess Chigbo Mediatrix was found murdered and her body dumped along the Kubwa Expressway on January 7, 2026, in what authorities suspect may be linked to “one-chance” criminal gangs.
The lifeless body of an Abuja‑based lawyer, Princess Chigbo Mediatrix, was discovered dumped along the Kubwa Expressway in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday, January 7, 2026.
Mediatrix was a legal practitioner and former Treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Abuja Branch. Documents and identification recovered at the scene suggested she may have been affiliated with the FCT High Court.
Preliminary findings by the FCT Police Command indicate that the she may have fallen prey to suspected one‑chance criminal gangs — mobile robbers who pose as commercial transport operators, assault unsuspecting passengers and often dump them after robbery. Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said investigations are ongoing to unravel the full circumstances of the incident.
The Nigerian Bar Association condemned the murder in the strongest terms, stating it was a senseless and horrifying attack and a stark indicator of a deteriorating security environment in the capital. The association warned that daily commuting has become increasingly dangerous, demanding intensified intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted operations against known criminal syndicates.
The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Abuja Branch, also condemned the act, urging the Federal Capital Territory Administration and security agencies to declare a state of emergency over one‑chance criminal operations and to roll out stronger protective measures for commuters.
As investigations continue, the death of Princess Chigbo Mediatrix remains under police review, with authorities pledging to bring those responsible to justice.
