Summary

Council Manager Adebimpe Akinola died on September 29, 2025, after a brief illness. Her passing makes her the fifth female local government official in Lagos to die within two months, sparking public calls for investigation into the string of deaths.

The Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ms Adebimpe Akinola, has reportedly passed away on September 29, 2025, after a brief illness. Her death marks the fifth case of female local government officials dying in Lagos State within the last two months.

Until her death, Ms Adebimpe served as the Chairperson of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State and was described as a dedicated administrator who headed the administration of Coker/Aguda LCDA.

Confirming her passing, the Forum of Council Managers said in a statement:

“With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing away of our dear Chairperson, Ms. Adebimpe Akinola, this afternoon, Monday, 29th September, 2025. She was the Council Manager of Coker/Aguda LCDA until her death.”

The Forum added that her Janazah Prayer would hold on September 30, 2025, at Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, after Zuhr Prayer at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara, at 2:00 p.m.

Her death adds to the growing list of female local government officials in Lagos State who have died since the inauguration of the present council administration on July 27, 2025.

On August 13, 2025, Councillor Oluwakemi Rufai of Ward C in Ibeju Lekki Local Government died just weeks after being sworn in. Five days later, on August 18, Councillor Zainab Shotayo of Ward C in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA also passed away.

The cycle of losses continued in September when Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, died on September 20, followed by the death of Councillor Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan of Ward F, Somolu Local Government, on September 21.

The string of deaths has left many in shock, with the public calling for a proper investigation into the circumstances. The repeated loss of female council officials has raised concerns and remains a troubling mystery.
