NAPTIP has launched an investigation into Speed Darlington after he admitted during an Instagram live session to raping a minor in a hotel

The Cybercrime Response Team of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has launched an investigation into a disturbing Instagram live video and other video content posted by entertainer Speed Darlington, also known as Mr. Darlington Okoye.

This was after Speed Darlington, during a live Instagram video, confessed to raping a minor in an unamed hotel. The artist spoke in Igbo, complaining he had to pay a hotel staff N2,000 to clean blood stains from a bedsheet after his sexual violence.

Due to jurisdictional limitations, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) had initially referred the case to NAPTIP.

“In view of the above, and in line with our commitment to justice, we have escalated the situation to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP),” DSVA stated on X.

On May 28, 2025, NAPTIP issued a brief statement on its official X  account, confirming the commencement of investigations:

“The NAPTIP Cybercrime Response Team has commenced investigations into the disturbing Instagram live video and other videos made by the same individual. We at NAPTIP are committed to a world where children are safe and free from all forms of violence.”

NAPTIP also confirmed it is working in collaboration with the Lagos State DSVA to address the incident and any underlying reports. In a follow-up post, the agency urged Speed Darlington to cooperate with the investigation:

“Mr. Darlington Okoye (AKA Speed Darlington) is urged to respond to the official invitation issued on May 28, 2025, regarding a viral video and others in which he admitted to sexually abusing a minor. Failure to respond may lead to further action.”

In a related development, internet personality Isaac Fayose revealed in a video that the minor reportedly raped by Speed Darlington was accompanied by her mother to a police station to file an official statement.

Speed Darlington has since apologised for the video, claiming it was a publicity stunt to promote his new song. However, the apology has drawn criticism, with many calling for accountability regardless, as investigations are ongoing.
