27-year-old Ahmadu Yaro has been sentenced by a Nasarawa State High Court to 21 years imprisonment for raping a three-month-old baby in a 2020 Case.
Ahmadu had been arrested in May 2020 for rape and reportedly injuring the baby by the Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the Adogi community of Lafia Local Government Area of the state.
The case, which was between the Nasarawa State Government and Ahmadu Yaro, had its file number as NSD/LF191c/2020.
Before his arrest in 2020, he was reported to have committed a similar offense and was caught by members of the Adogi community in Nasarawa, but was not reported to the police..
Delivering the judgment on July 21, 2025, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu, described the act as “barbaric, demonic, and a direct attack on the moral conscience of society.”
The judge therefore sentenced Ahmadu Yaro to 21 years imprisonment with hard labour. She said the sentence brings justice to the survivor and will deter others from doing the same.
Nasarawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Isaac Danladi, who was personally present in court, hailed the judgment.
“This ruling is not only a relief to the victim’s family but a clear message that Nasarawa State has zero tolerance for any form of sexual violence, especially against children. The judiciary has once again demonstrated its reliability and strength,” he stated.
Ahmadu Yaro will serve the 21 years imprisonment term without the option of fine.
