Aisha Maikudi Emerges as UNIABUJA’s new Vice Chancellor

Aisha Maikudi the newly appointed Vice-chancellor of the University. She emerged victorious as the best among the 10 candidates interviewed and shortlisted for the position of Vice-chancellor of University of Abuja. 

Aisha Maikudi, a professor of Law, and former deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) has been appointed as the seventh Substantive Vice Chancellor of University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) with a nonrenewable tenure of five years. 

The announcement came through during the 77th Extraordinary Meeting of Council on Tuesday, December 31st, 2024, and became effective from January 1st, 2025. 

Aisha Maikudi emerged as the best among the 10 shortlisted candidates interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board of the University. She is the first female Head of department in 2013, Deputy Dean of Faculty of Law in 2018, and the pioneer Director of the University of Abuja International Centre in 2019.

She joined the university as Lecturer II in 2008 and became a professor in 2021. Aisha is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nigerian Law Teachers Association (NLTA), International Federal of Women Lawyers (FIDA), and Nigerian Society of International Law.

Her achievements include: groundbreaking contributions towards UNIABUJA academic standards and culture excellence when she was the deputy Vice-chancellor (Academics), contribute to the growth of legal scholarship as a Professor in International Law, represented the university at international conferences, workshops, and training sessions in Ghana, Egypt, South Africa, Germany, Italy, UK, US, and China. Her papers solidify her reputation as an academic leader.
