Summary

At 18, aspiring dermatologist Olabimpe Ogunyemi is stepping into leadership through the upcoming Albinism Advocacy Pageant. She hopes to use the platform to challenge stereotypes, inspire young girls, and promote inclusion for persons with albinism.

At just 18, Olabimpe Ogunyemi is already charting an inspiring path for herself and others.

With dreams of becoming a renowned dermatologist and building a beauty brand that caters to all skin types, she is currently honing her skills in makeup, lash artistry, and other beauty treatments while seeking admission into the university to study Medicine and Surgery.

During her secondary school years, Olabimpe displayed strong leadership qualities, serving as Head Girl and Assembly Prefect. Now, as one of the contestants in Nigeria’s first Albinism Advocacy Pageant, she is stepping into a new kind of leadership by using her voice to challenge stereotypes and inspire inclusion.

Meet Olabimpe Ogunyemi – Albinism Advocate and Aspiring Dermatologist

  1. Why did you decide to participate in this pageant?

The reason why I decided to participate in this pageant is because I see it as a privilege to change misconceptions, negative attitudes and negative stereotypes surrounding persons with Albinism.

  1. What misconception about albinism would you like to change?

The main misconception I’d like to change is the one that says ‘persons with albinism don’t see in the afternoon.’

  1. What message or advice do you have for young girls with albinism?

You are unique, you are strong, don’t let others define you and believe in yourself that you can make a difference.

  1. What goals are you working toward in the next five years?

My goal is to enlighten members of the public through social media content, media rounds and conversations to help debunk myths and misconceptions about persons with albinism. So in the next five years, I hope to see a positive attitude, equality and inclusion of persons with albinism in society

Nigeria’s first Albinism Advocacy Pageant, organised by Misty Glam Company (MGC), will take place on September 13, 2025, in Lagos. For partnerships or sponsorships, contact MGC via email at hello@mistyglamcompany.com or WhatsApp at 0704 870 4115.
