Hello friend, It’s still Women’s History Month, and today, we’re focusing on how to amplify women’s voices so their achievements aren’t reduced to oversimplified or trivial facts. Nigerian women have played important roles in shaping this nation’s history, culture, and progress. Yet, their contributions are often sidelined or minimised. For instance, many women who fought for Nigeria’s independence, advanced education, or challenged oppressive systems are remembered for a single fact — if they’re remembered at all. This erasure isn’t just a disservice to them; it’s a loss for everyone who benefits from their legacy. To change this, we need to take deliberate steps. Share their stories widely, especially those highlighting their full impact, not just one achievement. Support Nigerian women-led initiatives and platforms that celebrate their contributions. Advocate for inclusive education that teaches the next generation about the depth of their work. And challenge media and cultural narratives that reduce their legacies to simplistic anecdotes. When we amplify Nigerian women’s voices, we honour their contributions and inspire future generations to build on their work. At Naija Feminists Media, we’re committed to this mission. Through diverse knowledge products on women’s experiences, feminism and a vibrant community of feminists, we work to ensure Nigerian women’s stories are heard, valued, and celebrated. Join us in making sure these voices aren’t just heard — they’re remembered. With love and solidarity,The NFM Team. ![]() It’s wild to think that many of the basic freedoms women enjoy today had to be fought for, tooth and nail, by the feminists who came before us. And yet, feminism is often misunderstood. Some people have been taught to reject it, with the claim that it is a “man-hating movement.” Here’s where the real conversation starts. There’s an awakening happening. More and more people are realising how deep these inequalities run and understand the fight that came before and the battles that lie ahead. And then there are those still asleep, enjoying the fruits of liberation while unknowingly rejecting the very roots of their freedom. Continue to read more on how ‘feminism’ is a movement for social justice for me, helped shape many of their rights, and why they should identify with the movement. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
