Summary

At the World Economic Forum, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment in Nigeria, Jumoke Oduwole, discussed ongoing business climate reforms in an interview with “Quest Means Business” on CNN. She highlighted her ministry’s focus on investment promotion and the export of services as a strategic move for economic growth.

The Nigerian Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, has reaffirmed her commitment to business climate reforms during an interview with CNN’s Quest Means Business at the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Feb. 1, 2025.

Jumoke, who mentioned that she has spent the past nine years working on business climate reforms, emphasised her ministry’s plans to expand these efforts. She stated that beyond improving the ease of doing business, the present government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, now aims to promote investment and boost the export of services. According to her, focusing on services presents a “quick win” for Nigeria due to its lower infrastructure demands.

When asked about transforming Nigeria’s business environment and changing its culture, Jumoke stressed that there are no shortcuts. “It’s the people, the processes, and the infrastructure. We will make sure there’s more transparency and efficiency,” she said. “We have been doing this work for nine years, so there’s no shortcut. We just continue to make things easier and make Nigeria an easier place to grow business.”

Also addressing comparisons to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Jumoke described the comparison as an honour but maintained that her focus remains on delivering excellence and impact. “This job is about excellence and impact and how I can serve over 200 million Nigerians,” she said.

Her remarks at the WEF reinforce Nigeria’s commitment to fostering a more business-friendly environment, with transparency, efficiency, and investment promotion at the core of ongoing reforms.
