In the film, Wunmi portrays Annie, a Hoodoo conjurer and spiritual leader in the Jim Crow South. Separated from her husband, Elijah “Smoke” Moore, Annie stands as the emotional heart of the story, using her knowledge of herbs and Hoodoo to protect her community from a dark force threatening their lives.
Wunmi’s nomination places her among a strong lineup of contenders in the category. The list includes Benicio Del Toro (One Battle After Another), Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value), Indya Moore (Father Mother Sister Brother), Adam Sandler (Jay Kelly), Andrew Scott (Blue Moon), Alexander Skarsgård (Pillion), Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value), and Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another).
In addition to her nomination, Sinners will also receive The 2025 Gotham Awards Ensemble Tribute, recognising the film’s cast led by Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, Buddy Guy, Li Jun Li, Delroy Lindo, and Mosaku herself.
The 35th Annual Gotham Film Awards Ceremony will take place on December 1, 2025, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Winners will be determined by separate juries of writers, directors, actors, and producers, with special tribute honours also being presented during the event.
