Summary
DOHS Cares Foundation will host weekly X Spaces throughout May at 5:00 PM WAT to raise awareness about femicide in Nigeria and discuss strategies for prevention and legal reform.
Every Friday in May, the DOHS Cares Foundation will host a series of conversations on X Spaces to raise awareness on femicide. These discussions will also explore actionable strategies to prevent the killing of women and girls because of their gender.
The weekly discussions, themed “Femicide 101 Series: Understanding Gender-Related Violence”, are scheduled for 5:00 PM WAT and will be moderated by Eunice Thompson.
The speakers will include founders of feminist and advocacy organisations, prominent advocates, feminist researchers, and directors of women-focused foundations, such as Ololade Ajayi, Simbiat Bakare, Muthoni Mukono, Felicia Akindurodoye, Esther Ogemdi, and Olemija Jadesola.
According to the Foundation, 50 reported and known cases of femicide have been documented in Nigeria as of April 2025. These figures are the result of year-long efforts by DOHS Cares Foundation to draft a Bill on Femicide, conduct research, gather data, and advocate for stronger legal frameworks to address killings against women and girls.
As human rights defenders, DOHS Cares Foundation works to ensure the protection of women, children, and other vulnerable groups from violence, abuse, and exploitation. Their work emphasises legal reform, accountability, and community education as essential tools for ending femicide in Nigeria.
The Foundation is calling on the public to participate in the weekly X Spaces and lend their voices to this critical cause. Join the conversation for 5:00 PM WAT every Friday in May as issues concerning femicide will be addressed.Â
