The DOHS Cares Foundation is set to hold the second edition of its Global Race Against Femicide on November 29, 2025, at Agege Stadium, Lagos State. The event coincides with the annual 16 Days of Activism against male violence against women.
This year’s race, themed “Run for Her,” is designed to go beyond a sporting event but become a movement to raise awareness about femicide. Femicide is the intentional killing of women and girls simply because they are female.
According to the DOHS Femicide Observatory, there was a 240% increase in reported femicide cases between January 2024 and January 2025. Over 88 femicide cases were recorded between January and June 2025,
The race seeks justice for victims, while also raising funds for tracking cases of femicide and providing safe shelters for potential victims and survivors of femicide, domestic violence, and sexual abuse.
According to DOHS Cares, the race aims to draw urgent attention to the alarming rates of femicide in Nigeria, while rallying support for those affected by gender-based violence.
“Feet will pound the ground for justice while we carry the weight of memory and run to give another woman the chance to live,” the foundation said.
The initiative is also positioned as a global movement to end violence against women and girls. Participants will be running in solidarity for women whose voices were silenced, as a memorial for victims and a call for justice.
Interested individuals can register to join the race through the DOHS Race Against Femicide platform.
