Dr. Jumoke Oduwole has hailed Air Peace’s new Lagos–São Paulo direct flights, announced during President Tinubu’s Brazil visit. She described it as a milestone to strengthen trade, tourism, and bilateral ties between Nigeria and Brazil.
Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, has congratulated Air Peace on securing approval to begin direct flights between Lagos and São Paulo, Brazil.
In a post on X, she wrote: “Direct flights from Lagos to São Paulo are now a reality, a milestone for trade, tourism, and stronger ties between Nigeria and Brazil.”
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga confirmed the development in a statement on August 26, 2025, noting that it followed an expanded two-hour bilateral meeting between both leaders.
The new route, which will be Air Peace’s first intercontinental service to South America, was officially announced during President Tinubu’s recent state visit to Brazil, where both countries signed a series of bilateral agreements.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil described the new flight service as a “critical step” in fostering stronger economic and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
Beyond aviation, Nigeria and Brazil signed multiple cooperation agreements covering diplomacy, science and technology, and agriculture. These included collaboration on diplomatic training, biotechnology, space, ocean science, digital transformation, trade, joint investment, and agricultural financing.
The Lagos–São Paulo route is expected to boost tourism, trade, and investment opportunities while deepening diplomatic ties between Africa’s largest economy and Latin America’s biggest market.
